During my recent visit to Shanghai to attend the President's Meeting of the World Federation of Diamond Bourses, I had the opportunity to moderate a panel titled "Natural Diamonds in the Chinese Market." The discussion was an eye-opener and important for anyone looking to understand the Chinese market.
I drew from that discussion - which can be viewed here - along with other presentations, and informal chats I had while there, for my latest piece published by Rapaport.
There are a lot of moving parts in China, both working in favor of the diamond industry and as hurdles for it to overcome. The potential is still there, but the industry can no longer take China's growth for granted.
